How EPIC runs a campus.
01 · The building
It starts with the room.
The average school is over 85,000 square feet of classrooms, corridors, offices and gyms — and every one of them is a place where someone needs to be heard.
That was the whole idea in 1978, when Claudia Anderson designed a classroom sound system so her two hard-of-hearing sons could hear their teachers. It’s still where we start: the floor plan, room by room.
02 · Network
Wired for power and data.
The infrastructure in the walls that every device plugs into: the district network and PoE.
PoE carries power and data over one cable — InfoView displays run on it, and networked OPTIMUM classrooms use it as backup power.

EPIC (Education Paging & Intercom Communications) is the layer everything else runs on. It’s a web and mobile platform that knows every room, every device and every schedule.

A signal on every staff member.
SAFE 3.1 badges are worn, not mounted. Each one is personalized, so an alert always says who sent it, and uses industry-standard dual-button activation. Teacher microphones move through the building too.
SAFE isn’t a sixth box on the stack. It runs through every layer: the same network, badges and mics on the devices layer, EPIC’s campus map and the SAFE + app.

06 · SAFE · 2 of 5 · Location
EPIC finds the badge.
When a badge or mic is activated, EPIC uses the devices already installed — classroom speakers, InfoView displays, EPIC Kiosks, network devices and cameras — to locate it. Where three or more of their ranges overlap, EPIC has its spot.
EPIC pins it on the campus map, with the room and the person who sent it.

EPIC knows what, who and where.
EPIC turns the alert into one event with a type and a level. Staff can escalate from the badge itself, with no phone or radio needed.

06 · SAFE · 4 of 5 · Response
One event. Every response, in seconds.
- Camera view. EPIC opens the nearest EduCam360 view for the office and responders.
- 911. EPIC notifies first responders with the exact location.
- Intercom. EPIC sends a clear announcement to the right zones.
- InfoView. EPIC switches hallway displays to alert messaging.
- Staff. EPIC notifies the nurse, office and response team.
- SAFE +. A live campus map on mobile and desktop: teachers mark their rooms, and responders see room status across the district.
- Zones. Hold or lockdown actions for a wing, a building or the campus.

Resolved, and on the record.
When the office clears the event, EPIC returns signage, intercom and every notified device to normal, and saves the event with its timeline: who, where, what happened and when.
